2023-24: Supporting Postgraduates Who Teach Mathematics and Statistics

Friday 9th February 2024

This is a free one-day workshop for postgraduate students who teach mathematics and statistics. It will take place on Friday 9th February 2024 at The Bayes Centre, Edinburgh.

Please note that although the workshop is free, we are unable to cover travel costs for participants. Those travelling from outside Edinburgh to attend should talk to their local postgraduate coordinator about these expenses.

The workshop will cover issues such as planning and preparing for teaching, facilitating problem solving classes, encouraging participation and providing support, and assessing student work and providing feedback.

One of the sessions will allow participants to discuss any issues, challenges or concerns they may have in relation to their teaching duties, and to allow an opportunity for them to seek solutions both from fellow delegates and the session facilitators, who are experienced higher education teachers of mathematics.

The workshop will run as an in-person only event, facilitated by Prof Michael Grove and Dr Joe Kyle (University of Birmingham).

We are grateful to the Glasgow Mathematical Journal Trust for financial support of this workshop.

Registration in advance is essential for all attendees due to the limited number of places in the workshop and to ensure sufficient catering is available. Please register by 09.00am on Thursday 25th January 2024.
