2024-25: Supporting Postgraduates Who Teach Mathematics and Statistics

Friday 17th January 2025

Don’t miss out on this one-day, in-person only workshop facilitated by Prof Michael Grove (University of Birmingham) for postgraduate students who teach mathematics and statistics. It will take place on Friday 17th January 2025 at the new Clarice Pears Building in the University of Glasgow.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to discuss and learn teaching strategies with a professional of teaching mathematics. Moreover, it will give a networking opportunity (and a catch-up after the symposium!) to all maths and stats PhD students in Scotland.

The workshop will cover issues such as planning and preparing for teaching, facilitating problem solving classes, encouraging participation and providing support, and assessing student work and providing feedback.

Participants will have a chance to discuss any issues, challenges or concerns they may have in relation to their teaching duties, and to seek solutions both from fellow delegates and the session facilitators.

Registration in advance is essential for all attendees due to the limited number of places in the workshop and to ensure sufficient catering is available. Please register by 09.00am on Friday 10th January 2025. You must be logged-in to the SMSTC website to access the 'SIGN UP' button on this page.

(Please note that although the workshop is free, we are unable to cover travel costs for participants. Those travelling from outside Glasgow to attend should talk to their local postgraduate coordinator about these expenses. If this were to become a problem, please let us know at admin@smstc.ac.uk )

Location: Room 163, Clarice Pears Building, University of Glasgow: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fbD2wTDfG63RdXqy5

We are grateful to the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Algebra, Geometry, and Quantum Fields (AGQ CDT) for financial support of this workshop.
