2025-26: Research Skills Day

Friday 1st May 2026

The SMSTC Research Skills Day is an in-person event at the University of Edinburgh, in collaboration with academics from our member institutions. Aimed primarily at first-year PhD students in the mathematical sciences, PhD students at any stage are welcome to attend!

This year we will have several talks on diverse topics, ranging from how to give a good maths talk to where to ask for money to organise events and travel. Moreover, we have put together a panel of recent maths & stats PhD students from Scottish universities who will share with you their experience in an interactive fashion.
